Paul Adema

Hello,

My name is Paul Adema, living in Zwolle (province Overijssel in the Netherlands) where I live now for over 20 years. I’m dad of three adult children and work for more than 30 years in the IT.

Photography was something other people did and yes of course I have made some photos but  that was limited to just the family pictures during the holiday.  The made photos ended up in photo albums becoming dusty because nobody was looking at them no more.

After a period of annoying back problems my physical therapist advised me to be more physically active by making walks. Just believe me, I’m still grateful to her.

The first things I bought was a good set of walking shoes and a backpack so I could take the necessary things with me like a bottle of water and some sandwiches. In that time I had no camera.

At this very moment I can assure you things have changed. For now I’m glad if there is any space left in my backpack for some drinks and sandwiches.

After the first year of walking I started with a Nikon D50 and a very light tripod but that has changed now in taking a Nikon D700 with me and of course a backpack with alternative lenses and a more heavy tripod. I can honestly tell you that I’m not walking more than 15 km.

The problem with making a choice at home which lens I should take with me ends always with a feeling of regret during a walk. Very often I was confronted with situations that I didn’t had the right lens with me. So, having learned from this, most of the time I’m taking everything with me.

This was also the reason that it took some time before I could decide which backpack was the most suitable one for me.

I decided that the “Lowepro Nature trekker AWII” was the right backpack for me. You can change the format so I can take each of my lenses neatly protected with me.

Almost every weekend, depending on the weather, I go out.  I have a number of favorite spots, not far from where I live.

I spend a lot of time in “Windesheim”, a little thorp south from Zwolle, which is situated near the IJssel. Formerly there stood a brick factory where clay holes were formed.

Nowadays, there are only the remains of the brick factory and there is originated a beautiful nature. Other favorites are the floodplains of the river IJssel and nearby areas like the Spoolderwood, the “Engelse werk” and the “Vreugderijkerwaard”. You will find many photos of me taken in these areas.

Somewhat further away from Zwolle, I enjoy visiting the provinces “Flevoland, Drenthe, Friesland and of course Overijssel.

There is still much to discover for me but with the help of the people I meet during the walks, the internet sites like (On Track, Nature sites) there are a lot of areas where I can walk and enjoy nature. You can follow the news on my website.
